Keep your eyes peeled for The Song Of The Dove- A Love Story, in bookstores. Like so many picture books, it has to been seen to be truly appreciated.
I can tell you though, it is possibly one of the most beautifully illustrated picture books I have seen for a long time. The illustrations (Sonia Kretschmar), are rich, lavish and exquisitely detailed, begging you to linger for long periods of time over the pages.
The story itself, (told by Errol Broome), is the heartbreaking story of the great composer Vincenzo Bellini and the love of his life, Maddelana. Comparable to the story of Romeo and Juliet, this tale is made all the sadder for the fact that it is true and like most romantic tragedies, the tragedy itself could so easily have been averted.
What a stunning introduction to classical music history The Song Of The Dove- A Love Story makes…
